North Carolina soldier shot in chest trying to surprise wife with breakfast in bed

A soldier stationed at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina was shot in the chest by his wife when he tried to surprise her with breakfast in bed on Friday.

According to Raleigh-Durham's ABC Channel 11, 27-year-old Tiffany Segule shot her husband through a closed bedroom door because she thought he was an intruder.

Zia Segule, 28, had left for work Friday morning, but returned shortly after 10 a.m. with breakfast for his wife. As he approached the bedroom, the house alarm sounded. Tiffany Segule fired multiple shots at the bedroom door, striking her husband in the chest.

Police told Channel 11 that the soldier was conscious and oriented when paramedics arrived on the scene. He was treated and released at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Officers said that Mrs. Segule may have been on edge due to a series of break-ins in the area. She was questioned by police and released, but the investigation is ongoing.
