'Nothing better than a dead n***er': New York City paramedic threatened after firehouse noose incident

A New York City paramedic has been forced to go to her superiors after getting threatening and racist letters in her locker after an incident at the firehouse involving a "prank" noose.

According to the New York Daily News, Keisha Brockington, 41, received a letter telling her, "Nothing better than a dead n*gger," and threatening her life.

The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is taking the threats against Brockington seriously due to the letter which also stated, "You stupid n*gger, better watch your back, talking all this crap,” and "You better watch your back when you start your car up."

“I don’t think it was serious but God forbid if it was,” explained a union rep who remained anonymous.

According to investigators, the threats stem from a noose incident at the firehouse that led to one paramedic being suspended after Brockington urged the perpetrator to go to the union after he was outed.

John Thornton, a newly hired EMT, admitted he was behind the noose prank which he said was aimed at a white colleague over a recent romantic break-up. Realizing he was in trouble, Thornton reached out to Brockington for advice -- which ended up leading to a threat against her.

“I fight very hard for members when they’re in trouble,” Brockington explained “And for someone to leave that note, it felt like a stab in the heart.”

“To me, that letter is a coward move,” she added. “If you have an issue with someone, you should be able to address it face to face.”

According to Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro, the writer of the letter can expect to be fired.

“The individual responsible for this vile, hateful message not only will be fired — but belongs in jail,” Nigro said in a statement.
