An elderly nun embroiled in a multi-year legal battle with pop star Katy Perry "collapsed and died" during a Friday court appearance related to the case, The Hollywood Reporterpublished Friday.
Sister Catherine Rose Holzman, 89, had been fighting to save her Los Feliz convent for the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart. The LA Archdiocese sought to sell the property to the singer and American Idol judge.
Hours before her death in court, Sister Holzman gave her final interview.
"And to Katy Perry, please stop," Sister Holzman told Fox Los Angeles. "It’s not doing anyone any good except hurting a lot of people."
In the same interview, Sister Rita Callanan blasted the Archdiocese and said that the convent would take their case to Pope Francis.
“You have stolen the property of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart. Please archbishop... Do what is right in your heart,” Sister Callahan begged. “We have an agreement with Rome. It’s in writing and it says if there are any disputes, they are to be settled in Rome."
"Sister Catherine Rose served the Church with dedication and love for many years and today we remember her life with gratitude," Archbishop Jose H. Gomez said in a statement. "We extend our prayers today to the Immaculate Heart of Mary community and to all her friends and loved ones."
