NYC bombing suspect Ahmad Khan Rahami in custody after shootout with cops

28-year-old Ahmad Khan Rahami, who was wanted by police for his suspected role in this weekend's bombings in New York and New Jersey, has been taken into custody.

CNN reports that Rahami was arrested following a shootout with police in Linden, New Jersey this morning. Rahami was shot by police officers during the incident and was brought to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for his wounds.

One police officer was shot in the chest during the shootout, although he was spared from serious injury because he was wearing a bulletproof vest.

Police first identified Rahami as a suspect in the bombing on Monday morning, when they released his name and photo to the public and asked for information on his whereabouts.

In addition to placing an explosive device inside of a dumpster in the Manhattan neighborhood of Chelsea, Rahami is also believed to have left a knapsack filled with explosives at a train station in his hometown of Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Rahami is a naturalized American citizen who was born in Afghanistan.
