NYT reporter mocks the FBI's Kavanaugh investigation on MSNBC: ‘We interviewed far more than 9 people’

New York Times reporter Peter Baker in a Thursday appearance on MSNBC mocked the FBI's investigation into the sexual assault allegations swirling around Brett Kavanaugh, saying the newspaper's reporting on the topic was far more thorough.

"This FBI apparently reached out to ten people total. It interviewed nine," Baker said dismissively.

"It may be those nine are plenty," he added, laughing. "But our reporters here with far fewer resources interviewed far more than nine people a few days on this subject, as has NBC, the Washington Post, and everybody else."

Baker said that the FBI could "have done a much much broader sweep of information" but elected not to push too deeply.

The FBI limited itself, Baker said, by looking "just at the allegations that Dr. Blasey Ford and Deborah Ramirez brought up, and none of these other questions people have been raising, like did he fully tell truth about the level of his drinking."

"A lot of the people that have come forward in the last few days," he added, "have talked about whether Judge Kavanaugh was a stumbling drunk or whether he could have blacked out, in contrast to his testimony."

"That," Baker said, "was not part of the FBI's mandate"
