Oath Keepers lawyer says they've stopped paying him and even communicating with him

A new legal filing revealed that Oath Keepers involved in the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol seem to have abandoned their lawyer.

According to a screen capture of the court filing, Pentiuk, Couvreur & Kobiljak, P.C. and Kerry L. Morgan, who are counsel for the Oath Keepers, have lost communication with their clients.

This is not the criminal case brought by the Justice Department, it's part of the civil case that members of Congress brought against the militia group for their participation in terrorizing officials on Jan. 6.

"That Defendant, Oath Keepers, has not communicated or responded to counsel after counsel reached out several times and there has been a breakdown of communication," the filing said. "That Defendant, Oath Keepers, has not paid its legal fees and costs due and owing Pentiuk, Couvreur & Kobijak, P.C. and have not provided information to the undersigned, if and when, the legal fees and costs will be paid. Counsel also requested Oath Keepers obtain substitute counsel in avoidance of this Motion, but have received no such substitution."

They then motioned to vacate as lawyers for the Oath Keepers.

"The suit invoked the Civil Rights Act of 1871, commonly known as the Ku Klux Klan Act, which allows lawsuits against government officials for claims that they conspired to violate civil rights," said NBC News when the suit was filed.
