Official who green-lit Kushner's security clearance will testify after GOP bows to White House demands: report

Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner obtained top security clearance despite serious opposition from career officials who saw multiple conflicts of interest.

Now, the official who overrode the objections of security officials is set to be interviewed by staff for the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, the Daily Beast reports.

Carl Kline initially refused to testify before the committee without lawyers from the White House Counsel’s office. They claimed concerns over executive privilege.

Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) moved to hold him in contempt, but Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) who also sits on the committee, wrote a letter inviting Kline to an interview -- with White House lawyers present.

Kline agreed and is set to appear on the Hill on May 1st.
