Ohio Democrat crashes GOP event trashing him for calling Mitch McConnell a 'tw*t burrito'

Ohio Republicans convened a press conference on Monday seeking to undermine Democrat David Sparks' run for the state House, only to see Sparks and his supporters attend the event.

"I’m not afraid of these people," Sparks told the Columbus Dispatch. "I went right into their living room and punched them in the face with some logic."

The press conference was intended to spotlight footage Republicans are citing as proof that Sparks is not qualified to beat incumbent Jeff Rezabek (R) in the race for the state 43rd District seat. Several of the clips were taken from Sparks' YouTube show, which he bills as "an ongoing exploration of issues and thought by David Sparks."

In one episode that aired last July, Sparks calls Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia "a douche," and "one of the biggest douches that have been produced in the history of homosapien production here in the United States." On the same show, he refers to House Speaker Mitch McConnell (R-KY) as "a tw*t burrito."

A clip from another episode shows Sparks recalling how he tried smoking crack cocaine when he was 20 years old, saying, "I got real high for like five minutes."

"We need people who are honest about their life experiences," Sparks said in response to Republican criticism. "I have the life experiences of everyday people, not a bunch of stuffy lawyers."

But state Republicans are demanding that House Minority Leader Fred Strahorn (D) reject Sparks' candidacy.

"Anyone who watches these videos would agree that David Sparks is not the kind of person that Ohioans deserve to represent them in the Statehouse," said state GOP chair Matt Borges. "The childish nature of these remarks are disturbing and do not illustrate the kind of character of a qualified public servant."
