Oregon cop gets 150 days in jail after molesting a child and violating his bail

An Oregon man who had worked as a police officer until being busted for molesting a girl will go to jail for five months, reports The Oregonian.

Former officer Daniel A. Kerbs plead guilty to first-degree online sexual corruption of a child and second-degree sexual abuse after admitting that he reached out to the girl online and then molested her.

The victim was a family friend.

Kerbs had been employed by the Woodburn Police Department, in an agricultural community south of Portland. Before that he had been a corrections officers at the Santiam Correctional Institution and the Coffee Creek Correctional Facility.

While awaiting sentencing, the former cop violated his bail by living with his girlfriend and her children. He was then allowed to make bail a second time.

In that case, the father of the children Kerbs was living with complained about his kids being exposed to a suspected predator cop in a letter to the court.

"We know next to nothing about Mr. Kerbs' criminal behavior. We don't know the extent to which the children may be at risk of abuse," his attorney wrote in a letter to the court.
