'Out for blood': Black Lives Matter activist warns Pence and Cheney to watch their back for MAGA attacks
A longtime activist in the Black Lives Matter movement is well acquainted with the threats that come from former President Donald Trump's supporters. After refusing to support the Trump cult, former Vice President Mike Pence and Minority Whip Liz Cheney (R-WY) are experiencing such threats for the first time.
Speaking to Rev. Al Sharpton on Sunday, WokeAF co-host Danielle Moodie and GOP strategist Shermichael Singleton both explained that people of color have been fighting the war against far-right radicalism for many years and it isn't a light matter.
"We have a false dichotomy in this country where we have the desire to want to do the both sides-ism," said Moodie. "The reality is you have angry white supremacists who recognize that their country is changing and Donald Trump told them to take it back by force. And then you have Black people that are in the streets, desperately saying that our lives matter, because we don't want to be killed in broad daylight or in our own homes or in our own cars or in front of our children. These two things are not like the other."
She and Singleton noted the stark contrast between what happened when peaceful Black Lives Matter protesters stood outside the White House in protest and during the Jan. 6 attack.
"We weren't even able to bring water bottles to Black Lives Matter marches," Moodie said. "Tell me how you're able to put together a full guillotine and then scream at the top of your lungs to hang the vice president of the United States and then know that you're going to go home and wake up in your bed the next day? Like, we're going out to march for our lives, and Black people are writing their phone numbers and addresses on their arms so people know where to find them because we know we're not safe in the streets protesting and acting on behalf of our first amendment rights."
Sharpton cited the NBC News report that Pence is starting his own conservative fundraising group, potentially to pay for some of the additional security he might need.
"I mean, Mike Pence was Donald Trump's sycophant in chief, so for me, it's laughable he's now trying to break with Donald Trump and stand on his own two feet, which we hadn't seen him do not one time during the entire administration," said Moodie. "And so, you know, I think that Mike Pence should be really worried and take what happened on 1/6 very seriously. These people are out for blood, and it doesn't matter he's a Republican, doesn't matter he was the vice president, doesn't matter he was with Donald Trump shoulder to shoulder through his most heinous policies. I think that he, much like many other Republicans walking away from Donald Trump, or are more forward coming with their thoughts like Liz Cheney are not safe. And the speaker of the House saying we need more security for the capitol building, for members of Congress, just shows you how far down the rabbit hole that Donald Trump has taken us. And everyone needs to be on high alert."
