Mort's Hurting

Mort's been limping since last Wednesday, and it's only gotten progressively worse. So, yesterday, he went to the emergency vet because it had A.) gotten so bad that he was bunny-hopping everywhere and B.) our vet told me to give him aspirin along with his prednisone, which is about as good for a dog as a jagged metal Krusty-O.

Mort's torn both of his ACLs. He's going to have to have surgery to walk properly again, and is currently camped downstairs behind a baby gate looking sad.

Has anyone's dog had to go through this before? What's the surgery like? How long does it take to recover? How much does it cost?
