The AP is taking the "let's judge a famous woman by her clothes" one step further by opening up a forum for readers to determine whether or not it's cool to discuss her outfit, which is a totally different and not at all offensive thing. I mean, as long as you make clear that you're aware that what you're saying might be considered retrograde and misogynistic, then you have full permission to say it.

For instance, some might consider it "wrong" for me to say that Senator Jeff Sessions looks like the kind of person who pretends to be a parent of a college student so that he can steal underwear from the dorm laundry room. Others might not. Thoughts?
