Paramilitary 'pro-law enforcement' instructor critically injured in training exercise explosion

A paramilitary instructor was critically injured and listed in fair condition after being hit with shrapnel during a training exercise in Timber, Oregon, KOIN reports.

Scott Turner, 42, an instructor for the Northwest Self-Defense Education training program, was airlifted to the Oregon Health & Science University Hospital trauma center where he was listed in fair condition.

According to Vance Stimler of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Turner was taking part in a exercise at the veteran-owned Joint Regional Operations Center.  The spokesperson said members of Turner’s group were shooting at targets filled with the explosive material Tannerite when a car door exploded, injuring Turner.

Stimler stated that the NSDE is a “pro-law enforcement” training school open to police officers and the public.

According to his Facebook page, Turner is the former owner of a martial arts studio, now working  as an instructor at the NSDE.

The NDSE website boasts the program provides instruction in self-defense, weaponry and – fortunately for the injured man -- emergency medical training for when “your loved one is injured during an active shooter scenerio (sic).”
