Right-wing social media platform Parler reported some of its users to the FBI ahead of MAGA riot: report
October 31, 2021
The Washington Post's lengthy new report about the January 6th Capitol riots includes some details about how right-wing social media platform Parler reported some of its own users to the FBI over violent threats they were posting.
According to the Post's sources, Parler decided to reach out to the FBI after its lawyers "had decided some posts were so threatening that they required law enforcement notification."
In late December, Parler sent the FBI screen shots of posts from one user who was openly advocating the murder of politicians.
And four days before the Capitol riot occurred, Parler sent the FBI a tip about one user who talked of the upcoming protest at the Capitol as the chance for violent revolution.
"This is the final stand where we are drawing the red line at Capitol Hill," the user wrote. "I trust the American people will take back the USA with force and many are ready to die... don't be surprised if we take the [Capitol] building."
Parler, which billed itself as a "pro-free speech" alternative to Twitter, attracted several Trump supporters after Trump was defeated in the 2020 presidential election.
