Pat Robertson to sick elderly man: 'You've asked God to be your physician so stick with it'

Televangelist Pat Robertson on Monday advised an elderly man in failing health to "stick with it" after he asked God to be his doctor.

"I am 76-year-old," a man named Jim wrote in an email to the TV preacher. "I made a covenant with God. I asked Him to be my physician. I said, 'I trust you, Lord, for all my physical needs -- whether I am sick or healthy, healed or afflicted.'"

But Jim said that he felt "pressure" from his family to see a doctor every time he got sick.

"Was I foolish to make such a commitment?" he wondered. "I know my loved ones are only concerned for my welfare. How can I make them understand?"

According to Robertson, some people made the mistake of thinking "doctors are God."

"They really aren't," he insisted. "And you've asked God to be your physician so stick with it! And say, 'Lord, I'm asking you for it.'"

Robertson said there was "nothing wrong with taking medicine," but Jim had "made a commitment to the Lord."

"Stick with it, don't let your family influence you. Do what you feel like doing," he concluded.
