Penn. man shoots and kills two Labradors he was paid $100 to put down 'humanely'

A Pennsylvania man who was paid $100 to "humanely" put down two dogs has been charged with animal cruelty because he admitted that he shot them in the head, and left them at a county park.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazettereported that Beaver County Department of Public Works employees had found the two dead dogs near a picnic shelter at Bradys Run Park in Brighton on Nov. 3. The employees buried the dogs the next day, and then notified police.

The owner of the two Labrador Retrievers later told authorities that he had paid 19-year-old Steven Roy Cable Jr. $100 to "humanely" euthanize the animals. Cable had reportedly told the owner that he would take the dogs to his farm, where he would give them a tranquillizer, and then bury them with his tractor.

The owner said that Cable claimed that he had performed this service before.

According to court documents, X-rays showed that each of the two dogs had been shot in the head with a .22 caliber bullet.

Cable was charged with two counts of animal cruelty and two counts of recklessly endangering a person. He was scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 15.
