Pennsylvania Republicans hold censure meeting for their retiring GOP senator
Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) hasn't got much more time in the Senate, but the Pennsylvania Republican Party may send him out with a censure, reported the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Arizona's Republican Party voted to censure Cindy McCain, wife to late Sen. John McCain, former Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) and Gov. Doug Ducey (R-AZ). Pennsylvania is pondering doing the same with their Republican official.
"The precise agenda of the meeting was unclear even to party insiders early Wednesday," explained the Inquirer. "An internal advisory sent by state GOP chairman Lawrence Tabas last week said the meeting was to 'consider the issues arising out of the impeachment and the path for our party going forward.'"
Toomey was one of seven Republicans who voted to convict Trump in the impeachment trial over his incitement of the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol and legislative branch.
It has reportedly "roiled the party" because many believed the GOP spin that the trial was "unconstitutional" and "unfair."
"I haven't seen an agenda, but it would be the most relevant issue for such a meeting to be called and I imagine that's going to be a subject of discussion," said Bill Bretz, Westmoreland County Republican chair, on the censure.
