Perkins: Boycott Betty Crocker for donating wedding cakes to 'counterfeit marriages'

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins this week called for a boycott of the Betty Crocker brand after it baked wedding cakes and donated them to the first same sex marriages in Minnesota.

"Celebrating these three families today, seemed very appropriate as Betty celebrates all families," Betty Crocker brand manager Laura Forero explained at a cake-tasting event in July.

In his daily commentary on Thursday, Perkins said that the only thing Betty Crocker is "mixing up is their priorities."

"Betty Crocker's latest promotion is a recipe for disaster," he opined. "In Minnesota, where parent company General Mills is headquartered, Betty Crocker decided to donate wedding cakes to the first homosexual couples who exchanged vows on the first day that counterfeit marriage was legal."

"Unfortunately for General Mills, the majority of Americans think natural marriage is anything but old fashioned," Perkins continued. "And they've made it tough on companies like Target, Starbucks, and JC Penney who disagree. Know where your money is going."

"When you're at the store, think outside the Betty Crocker box!"

Perkins pointed his listeners to DumpGeneralMills.com, a website created by the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) after Betty Crocker's parent company announced support for marriage equality in Minnesota earlier this year.

Over 26,000 people have signed a petition at the website vowing to never again to eat General Mills foods until the company agrees to "stop supporting this radical social agenda."
