Phyllis Schlafly yearns for GOP candidates who will resist 'gay tide' of same sex marriage

On her weekly Eagle Forum broadcast, longtime conservative gadfly Phyllis Schlafly warned Republicans to not believe the hype that "gay marriage is the wave of the future," adding that the GOP should be looking for candidates who will "not be swept along in the gay tide."

In a recording, captured by Right Wing Watch, Schlafly comes out against the prevailing wisdom that gay marriage is inevitable at the same time that polls show support at an all time high of 55%.

Schlafly blames the rising tide of supposed gay marriage acceptance on the mainstream media and "supremacist judges."

'If you get your news from the mainstream media, you may believe that the adoption of gay marriage is the wave of the future, that its momentum is so strong that it is unbeatable. But not so fast," she said. "That may not be true at all. All this so-called momentum is created by supremacist judges who are trying to impose their left-wing bias even on states where the voters have passed a referendum putting only traditional husband-wife marriage into their state constitution."

Pointing out that the legality of gay marriage may go before the Supreme Court in the next year or so -- while disregarding the fact that many of the "supremacist judges" have used Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia's opinion as guidance -- Schlafly urges the GOP to seek out candidates more in line with her belief that marriage should be between a man and a woman.

"It is unfortunate if marriage becomes a political issue between Republicans and Democrats, but it does look as if politics is going that way." she explains. "We are looking for candidates who will defend marriage and not be swept along in the gay tide."

Schlafly also asserts that the Republican Party "punished" the Nevada GOP party for dropping traditional marriage from their state platform by denying them the 2016 National Republican Convention which would have been held in Las Vegas.

According to officials from the Republican National Committee, “Vegas sent a letter withdrawing their bid for national convention based on our criteria for the arena facility and enough onside prep time. Cincinnati did as well.”

The convention was eventually awarded to Cleveland.

Cleveland mayor Frank Jackson (D) is a supporter of the Ohio Same-Sex Marriage Amendment which would  have overturned the state's ban on same-sex marriage had it qualified for the November 2014 ballot.
