Piers Morgan closes last show with parting shot at NRA for 'bullying this nation's politicians'

CNN's Piers Morgan closed his final show for the network thanking his viewers, but he didn't end it without taking a shot at one his biggest adversaries: the NRA and the gun culture that they promote.

Morgan began his closing remarks thanking his staff and the network for the opportunity to host the show.

“We gave everything we had and loved every minute of it. Well, almost every minute of it,” Morgan said.

Morgan then launched into a commentary about about gun control, by relaying a conversation he had with his brother, a Colonel in the Royal British Army, who said, “You always want an American next to you in a trench when the going gets tough.”

“But that’s where I think guns belong, on a military battlefield,” Morgan added. “Not in the hands of civilians.”

Morgan called guns a “disease” afflicting the United States.

Referring to the 2012 shooting in Aurora, Colorado, that left 12 people dead and 70 injured, and the Sandy Hook elementary shooting in the same year which took the lives of twenty children and six adults, Morgan said he felt the "absurd laws in this country would change, but nothing has happened."

Morgan blamed it on the influence of the NRA on American politicians.

“The gun lobby in America, led by the NRA, has bullied this nation’s politicians into cowardly supine silence even when 20 children are blown away in their classrooms,” said Morgan.

After stating that he has been accused of being anti-American because of his anti-gun views, Morgan explained that he is "pro-American", stating: "I’m so pro-American, I want more of you to stay alive.”
