Pro baseball player hits girlfriend in head with 8-inch rock during bar tab argument

A minor league baseball player with the Cincinnati Reds organization was charged with assault over the weekend after he allegedly threw rocks at his girlfriend's head and knocked her unconscious.

According to a police report obtained by The Arizona Republic, 21-year-old Tanner Jeremy Rahier's girlfriend tried to calm the situation on Saturday when he got an argument with a bartender at Pullano's Pizza in Glendale, Arizona.

After Rahier refused to pay his tab, the woman reportedly took him outside. And then he started arguing with her.

Police said that Rahier threw multiple rocks at his girlfriend. One rock about 8 inches in diameter reportedly hit her in the left side of the head, and she lost consciousness.

Police were able to apprehend Rahier nearby after he fled the scene.

The woman was taken to a local emergency room and treated for a deep head wound. She said she had dated Rahier for about a month, and she described the relationship as non-sexual.

In an interview with investigators, Rahier denied throwing rocks, and insisted that he did not know the woman. He was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and assault with intent to injure.

Investigators said that Rahier was under the influence when the incident occurred. He has at least one prior arrest in Oklahoma for public intoxication.
