Rare tornado shakes up L.A. neighborhood: 'That f*cking tree is gone, yo!'

A Los Angeles resident caught the moment when a tornado "hopscotched" into his neighborhood, KTLA-TV reported.

"Oh sh*t! What the f*ck!" Jamie Mena can be heard saying in the video as debris flies past his apartment. Later he remarks, "That f*cking tree is gone, yo!"

The National Weather Service confirmed that a "small EF0 tornado" passed through a 10-block area in the southern part of the city with winds measuring between 65 and 85 mph, leaving several vehicles and at least five homes damaged in its wake.

"'What is going on?' That's what was through my mind," Mena told KTLA. "I mean, am I in a hurricane or something, or in a tornado? But then I looked up, it was a tornado."

The Los Angeles Times reported that the tornado also ripped the sign off a school, the Garr Learning Center, causing it to crash through the window. No injuries were reported.

"The whole building was shaking," said 56-year-old Deborah LaVergne, who was preparing food for the students at the time. "It sounded like a freight train."

Besides generating the first tornado in the area in 10 years, the storm was also listed as the cause of a waterspout seen in Newport Beach on Friday.
