Ultra-wealthy send D.C. real estate market into 'frenzy' as they cozy up to Trump: report

Washington, D.C.'s luxury housing market is catching fire as the ultra-wealthy scoop up a limited number of available high-end homes all in an effort to get "close to the sun" — meaning President Donald Trump, according to a report.

The Wall Street Journal reported late Thursday that rich political appointees, new members of Congress and business big-wigs have all deluged the market around the nation's capital. That includes Howard Lutnick, the president’s nomination for commerce secretary, who bought the home of Fox News anchor Bret Baier for $25 million.

Newly minted Sen. Dave McCormick (R-PA) spent more than $10 million for a home in Georgetown, while Scott Bessent and John Phelan — Trump's picks for Treasury secretary and Navy secretary, respectively — are also in the market for new digs.

Also joining in the chaotic market: corporate executives and tech entrepreneurs looking to cozy up to the Trump administration.

“There are a lot of folks who are coming to Washington that aren’t necessarily even politicians, but those that want to be close to the sun,” real estate agent Daniel Heider of Sotheby’s told the Journal.

“They make 2016 look like amuse-bouche for the main entree, which is this moment in time right now," Heider added.
