Nancy Mace says she was 'physically accosted' and injured at Capitol 'by a pro-tr*ns man'

A man is facing charges after police said he attacked Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC), leaving her with a brace on her wrist.

The Capitol Police said Tuesday that they arrested a James McIntyre, 33, of Illinois, just after 6 p.m. Tuesday after a Congressional staffer reported an incident in the Rayburn House Office Building. House Division officers and agents with the Threat Assessment Section "tracked down the suspect," police said in a statement to Axios.

He was questioned and now faces a charge of assaulting a government official.

The attack happened at an event of the Foster Youth Caucus where Mace — who co-chairs the group — spoke, two sources familiar with the matter told the outlet.

Mace posted on X that she was "physically accosted at the Capitol tonight by a pro-tr*ns man."

"One new brace for my wrist and some ice for my arm and it’ll heal just fine. The Capitol police arrested the guy. Your tr*ns violence and threats on my life will only make me double down. FAFO," she wrote, using a profane acronym.

In response to a commenter, Mace said she was in "death goddess form."

Mace has repeatedly made headlines since the election over controversial statements she has made about transgender people, marking a significant shift from her previous stance.

Last month, Mace proposed a resolution to ban transgender women from using women's restrooms in the Capitol following the election of Sarah McBride (D-DE), who became the first openly transgender person elected to Congress.

Mace has used inflammatory language in the public spat, including labeling transgender people as "mentally ill" and saying: "I'm not going to stand for a man, you know, someone with a penis, in the women's locker room."

Her recent stances appear to conflict with what she said last year, when Mace described herself as “pro-transgender rights” and expressed support for children to explore their identities.
