With most Republican politicians ducking the debate over the Confederate flag flown at state capitol in South Carolina, Tennessee Senator Bob Corker left no doubt about how he feels about the symbol of the Confederacy: take it down.
Appearing on MSNBC's Morning Joe, the southern lawmaker said, “I see no reason for it to continue, I would certainly vote against flying the flag and my sense is that's what they are going to do,” reports The Hill.
Corker, who was born and raised in South Carolina, said he sees no need for the flag to remain flying in light of the racially-motivated shooting at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in downtown Charleston.
“It serves no purpose anymore, especially after what has occurred,” said Corker
“I love South Carolina, but I think in light of what's happened, there's no question in my perspective over what ought to happen,” he added.
Corker joins 2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney in calling for the flag to be removed permanently.
