Rick Santorum crushes Trump over hate messages to Cindy McCain: 'You're going to be blamed' if you act like this

Trump supporter Rick Santorum admitted on CNN Wednesday that President Donald Trump is bringing a lot of grief upon himself by continuing to attack the late Sen. John McCain months after his death.

Reacting to the hateful messages that widow Cindy McCain has received from Trump's supporters, Santorum said that the president shouldn't be held responsible for the actions of some followers.

However, he did say that at the very least, the president ought to discourage such behavior among his fans, which is something that he has steadfastly refused to do.

"The president is not behaving presidential," he said. "I know that his supporters, and I'm one of them, say, you know, he can't be blamed for all of this hostility and notes to Cindy McCain. And that's right, that kind of activity happens all the time! But you're going to be blamed if you act the way the president does."

Santorum said that it was "legitimate" to criticize Trump if he "continues these untoward, crude attacks" because "he's going to get blamed for creating a culture that's encouraging that."

Former Rep. Charlie Dent (R-PA) went much farther than Santorum did and called Trump "loathsome and disrespectful" for his continued attacks on a dead political rival.
