Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) identified a clear pattern in a key tranche of files that appear to be missing from the Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking case files — and what they might reveal about a large-scale effort by the Justice Department to shield President Donald Trump.
These files, per earlier reports, pertain to an unnamed woman who alleges she was sexually assaulted by both Epstein and Trump in the 1980s, when she was a minor.
"Congressman, do you believethe president is underinvestigation?" asked anchor Alicia Menendez.
"Well, the truth is that we just don't know," said Garcia, the ranking member on the House Oversight Committee. "I'll tell you what is prettyclear, though. It's clear thatthere is a massive coveruphappening right now and thatdocuments that are in adocument archive and manifestof what should be appearing inthe files, a series of thosedocuments are missing."
"Now, Ipersonally went into the DOJ toreview those files this week. Ilooked for those documents," said Garcia. "They all relate to a specificsurvivor. Those documents aregone. They are not there yet.Other documents that are inthat same archive manifest arein the files. And so why thesedocuments are not there? Weknow that they relate, and webelieve they relate to thepresident, because there areother documents that actuallythere's conversation aboutthese these particularinterviews. It is outrageous. And the DOJ right now is hidingthese documents. And there isno reason, no — certainly nolegal reason for them to bedoing so."
The bottom line, he concluded, is that "either thepresident is underinvestigation or the DOJ is lying to us. That's the onlyreason left that they could bewithholding these documents for."
