MSNBC host Joy Reid blasted Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) during the network's Iowa Caucus coverage Monday.
While the first-place winner was already declared to be Donald Trump, the second place remained too close to call as the night unfolded. Split between DeSantis and former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC), political analysts described what the finish meant for both. But it was Reid who explained that the one thing DeSantis did in 2024 was show the country who he was — and they weren't fans.
While his polling was high before his announcement, the DeSantis numbers slowly deflated like a child stretching the mouth of a balloon to make it screech.

The segment began as co-host Rachel Maddow explained that turnout for the caucus was significantly down compared to 2016, with approximately 56,000 fewer participants.
"And by the way," Reid said. "I think the problem for Nikki Haley, as you said, is that you need passion to caucus. It requires passion. But whatever happens with her tonight, I think we must remark upon the absolute tragedy of Ron DeSantis as a human being and as a politician. And I say this is somebody who spent 14 years in the great state of Florida."
She said that he "torched" the education system in the state, "turning it into a grand apologist for slavery." He also passed a six-week abortion ban that he signed secretly at midnight "so that no one could see him do it."
DeSantis also took the state House and Senate and "put them in his service, they had to essentially work for him," she explained.
The Florida governor's campaign is now calling it "election interference" that the caucus numbers were projected before it was finalized. Unlike a primary, there are no polling places where people are still waiting to cast a ballot. The caucus doors close, and no one else is allowed inside.
