Sen. Ron Johnson on Monday implied that COVID-19 vaccines were responsible for the surge in the COVID-19 delta variant this summer during an interview on Fox News.
While talking with host Tucker Carlson, Johnson drew a line between the availability of vaccines and the delta variant.
"Science has been corrupted, our medical system has been corrupted!" Johnson fumed. "Now I put a chart on the Senate floor last week that showed the pandemic was winding down before the vaccines ever had a chance to take off. Now you'd expect on that chart that the pandemic would continue to wind down! It didn't! We've had this huge delta surge!"
In fact, the delta variant had its biggest impact on unvaccinated Americans, who made up the vast majority of people who were hospitalized with the disease this summer.
According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, unvaccinated Americans were 29 times more likely to be hospitalized with COVID-19 than vaccinated Americans.
Johnson went on to say that focusing on vaccines has been a "blunder" and that more emphasis should be placed on "early treatment" options for the disease.
"I don't know why you're the only one saying this, but I'm grateful that you are," Carlson said.
