Rush Limbaugh pulls the bestiality card to defend Indiana: 'What happens if you love your dog?'

Radio host Rush Limbaugh used the common conservative argument of comparing same-sex marriage to bestiality on Tuesday, seizing on a British tabloid story from last year in his defense of Indiana's Senate Bill 101.

"This business of 'who you love,' where does that stop?" he said in audio posted by Media Matters. "If you're gonna start throwing a phrase around, 'who you love,' what happens if you love your dog?"

Limbaugh then alluded to the story of Amanda Rodgers, a 46-year-old British woman who held a "wedding ceremony" with her dog in Croatia last March.

He also mocked marriage equality supporters, saying that the phrase 'who you love' was "designed to silence all opposition" to the Indiana law, which has generated a firestorm of criticism against Gov. Mike Pence's (R) administration.

"It's not about 'Who do they love,' it's about gay marriage," Limbaugh said. "It's about people who have religious prohibitions against them. It's about gay marriage, it's not about homosexuality. It's not about honoring disagreement, discrimination against homosexuality. It's about people whose religious beliefs prohibit them from engaging in activity which lends credence or support to gay marriage."
