OpenAI CEO Sam Altman fact-checked Elon Musk on Wednesday after the Donald Trump adviser attacked the company for being broke.
President Donald Trump and OpenAI announced the Stargate Project, a partnership with Microsoft and others in AI that includes a "$500 billion investment over the next four years in building new AI infrastructure."
“It’s big money and high-quality people,” Trump announced, saying it is “a resounding declaration of confidence in America’s potential."

Musk responded by claiming, "I have that on good authority," that they only have $10 billion in funding actually secured.
Altman clapped back with his own comments, even offering Musk an opportunity to visit the site where the building is "already underway."
But he went further to imply that Musk could be using his own influence over Trump to promote his own AI tools. The free market has already decided that Musk isn't the leader of the new artificial intelligence world. In fact, OpenAI announced in June that it would be partnering with Apple for their AI tools on iOS products. Intel, by contrast, has partnered with IBM's AI, known as "Watson."
"This is great for the country," Altman said about the new facility.
"I realize what is great for the country isn't always what's optimal for your companies, but in your new role, I hope you'll mostly put [America] first," he said, using an American flag emoji.
