San Diego school board president mocked ‘Tide Pod-eating’ Parkland victims – now he faces calls to resign

David Chong, the president of the La Mesa – Spring Valley School District Board in San Diego refused to resign after a post from his personal Facebook page was made public.

According to CBS 8, Chong was featured in a video to support mayor Bill Well’s congressional bid. In the video he referenced the students from the Parkland mass shooting.

“Half of our lawmakers are taking firearms policy advice from kids who were eating Tide Pods just last week," Chong said in the video.

“I think every elected official should be paying attention to every person in their community who lives there," said Kyra Greene, a parent in the school district.

Chong has not apologized and said that his personal opinions do not impact his work. “The second amendment goes above and beyond someone’s right to not like it anymore. It’s more important than someone’s feeling of ‘oh, I am offended," Chong said.

Greene and other parents are fighting for his resignation. “If that is not a decision he is going to make, then I will be joining other people in this community to make sure someone else is elected to represent our children,” she said.

Chong is up for re-election in November.
