Sarah Sanders insists Trump stands by statements that blatantly contradict his plan for immigrants

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Thursday insisted President Donald Trump planned to treat so-called Dreamer "with heart" as he reportedly planned to yank away their protections.

Sanders insisted multiple reports that Trump planned to end the program were incorrect. She said that the White House was still reviewing the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which protects immigrants who entered the country illegally as young children.

Trump had previously said that Dreamers "shouldn't be very worried... I do have a big heart. We're going to take care of everybody."

Asked whether Trump stood by the statements, Sanders said he "absolutely" did. "He stands by his statement. Right now this is currently under review both from a legal standpoint, primarily, and until that review is complete, again, as I answered before we don't have anything to add."

"Would rescinding DACA be treating Dreamers with heart?" she was asked.

"I'm not going to get into a back and forth until a decision had been made," Sanders replied.

A senior administration official told Reuters on Thursday that Trump plans to scrap the program as early as this Friday. Multiple sources reported the same to McClatchy.

The program was created with an executive order in 2012 by then-President Barack Obama. The program currently provides tens of thousand of undocumented youth with a reprieve from deportation.
