Savannah Guthrie burns Trump for self 'congrats': 'Literally everybody predicts another attack'

NBC's Savannah Guthrie pushed backed on presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump on Monday after he offered himself "congrats" for predicting there would be a terrorist attack like the one that killed 49 people in Orlando over the weekend.

Following the mass shooting at a gay nightclub on Sunday, Trump tweeted to his followers: "Appreciate the congrats for being right on radical Islamic terrorism, I don't want congrats, I want toughness & vigilance. We must be smart!"

During an interview on the Today Show on Monday, Guthrie threw cold water on his self-congratulations.

"To a lot of people, that struck them as unseemly," she explained to Trump. "That at this moment that 49 people lay dead, you were focused on yourself and giving yourself congratulations."

The presumptive GOP nominee argued that Guthrie claim was "completely false" because the tweet went on to say that he would rather have "toughness & vigilance" than "congrats."

"But you did stop and say, 'Oh, I acknowledge and collect your thanks,'" Guthrie observed. "And then you later say in this statement, 'I predicted this.'"

"Which in fairness," she continued, "literally everyone predicts that there will be another terrorist attack. There's no one that doesn't recognize that that's the world we live in."

"Why are you giving yourself credit for predicting something that everyone knows will happen?" the NBC host wondered.

In his defense, Trump asserted that President Barack Obama did not predict another terrorist attack on U.S. soil.

"He won't even use the term radical Islamic terrorism," Trump quipped. "He thinks everyone is just a sweetheart."

Trump also said that he was against a ban on the assault-style weapons which have become common in mass shootings.

"There are millions of them already out there," Trump opined. "I absolutely wouldn't because people need protection. They have to protect. So, the bad guys will have the assault rifles and the people trying to protect themselves will be standing there with a BB gun."
