School staffer fired after gun 'accidentally' discharges and injures student: report

On Wednesday, Fox 6 News reported that a 59-year-old faculty member at St. Josaphat Parish school in Milwaukee was "immediately terminated" after accidentally discharging a gun on the school campus on April 5, causing minor injuries to a student.

Father Lawrence Zurek, the administrator of the school, announced that the Milwaukee Police Department is still investigating the incident, but gave a brief overview of what happened.

"On Friday morning, April 12, I was informed by an employee of the school that a weapon was accidentally discharged at the school on April 5th," said Zurek in a statement. "I tried to find out more information, contacted the Milwaukee police, and the employee who brought the gun to school was immediately terminated by me."

"It is very fortunate that the accidental weapon discharge at the St. Josaphat School on April 5 resulted only in a minor injury to one of the students in the school's care," said Alderman Jose Perez. "It could have been far worse." Perez added that the district attorney was still reviewing whether to pursue charges against the employee.
