In a direct message to Montel Williams on Twitter, pundit Scottie Nell Hughes seemed to threaten to expose the talk show host. Williams, however, called her bluff, tweeting out a screen capture of the message to his followers and cautioning Hughes and other Trump fans to tread lightly given what he knows.
"Careful threatening me when you don't know what I know and can tell reporters," Williams wrote.
In the message, Hughes linked to a story of Williams being accused of sexual harassment, a claim he fought in court and was ultimately exonerated of. Hughes seemed taken aback by Williams' tweet of the private conversation and immediately pulled back, apologizing.
"I wasn't threatening you. I was being a friend and not reminding people about your past issues [with] women & men," she tweeted. "I apologize you took it that way [because], unfortunately, the part about the lawyer is not highly reported as much. I am sorry."
In a statement to Raw Story, Williams said, "Scottie has known Donald a few months, I've known him more than 20 years. It would be unwise for her or any of these folks from central casting posing as surrogates to threaten me. They have no idea the damage me deciding to talk to a reporter about what I know would cause."
Raw Story reached out to Hughes for comment but have not yet heard back.
UPDATE: Hughes did ultimately respond saying, "No messages from you sorry or I would have responded that [Montel Williams] and I have had friendly convos since 14. Sorry. I guess I misunderstood how polite our friendship was and very disappointed he has that low of respect for me."
