Scrambling Kellyanne Conway laughably claims Clinton emails aren't Trump campaign 'centerpiece'

Donald Trump's campaign manager Kellyanne Conway appeared on MSNBC Sunday to desperately try to spin the news that FBI Director James Comey announced his agency found no evidence of wrongdoing in its investigation of Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server during her time as Secretary of State.

Host Steve Kornacki pointed out to Conway that on Friday Trump said the Clinton email "scandal" would be "bigger than Watergate." He asked how she feels about that statement now.

"Some things haven't changed at all," Conway insisted. Clinton, she said was reckless and careless with classified information.

Kornacki pointed to the Trump campaign's shifting views on Comey, who they initially said was too soft on Clinton in its investigation, then abruptly began to praise the director when it appeared his intervention might give the campaign an 11th hour boost.

"He's mishandled the investigation from the beginning," Conway said, going on to ask, "Why the dribs and drabs" of information have leaked during the investigation. Why, she asked, has Comey appeared to send such mixed messages on the topic of Clinton's emails?

She then tried to downplay the importance of the email issue to their campaign message.

"This has not been front and center of our campaign," Conway insisted, before pivoting to attack Clinton.
