Second Missouri man arrested for online threat to shoot black people

Another white Missouri man was arrested on Wednesday after posting an online threat of violence against black people, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

Northwest Missouri State Unversity freshman Connor B. Stottlemyre was taken to jail on suspicion of making a terrorist threat in connection to a post stating, "I'm gonna shoot any black people tomorrow, so be ready." He had not been charged as of Wednesday evening.

The post was reported to authorities by another NMSU student who saw it on the Yik Yak phone app. The app allows users to post threads that can be seen within a five-mile radius.

Stottlemyre is 19, the same age as Hunter Park, who was arrested earlier in the day for using the same app to state, "I'm going to stand my ground tomorrow and shoot every black person I see."

The two men were arrested in the wake of escalating tensions at the University of Missouri, where the school's president and chancellor resigned following criticism for their failure to address racially-inflammatory incidents on campus.

University police have asked students to notify them of any instances of "hateful or hurtful speech" they may encounter. But several black students have said they have faced harassment on campus on top of the online threats.
