Sen. Reid released from hospital hours after crash

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., was released from the hospital just a few hours after a car crash this afternoon left him with rib and hip contusions, reported the Associated Press. He was able to walk into the hospital himself and was taken by his security staff as a precaution. Earlier reports erroneously claimed that he was taken by ambulance.

Six cars, four of which belonged to the senator's caravan, were involved in what seemed to be a chain-reaction accident on Interstate 15, which is parallel to the Las Vegas Strip. Four tow trucks were called to the scene. One Reid staffer as well as members of his security team suffered minor injuries and were also taken to the hospital. The cause of the crash is unknown and Nevada Highway Patrol troopers are investigating, according to KNTV.

It is not clear where Reid was going at the time, although he was scheduled to talk to the editorial board of El Tiempo, a Spanish-language newspaper, at 2:30 p.m. Before the crash, he attended a ceremony in honor of the National Atomic Testing Museum in Las Vegas.
