Senate Republicans are running out of time to confirm two of Trump's national security picks -- that they held up

The clock is ticking for Senate Republicans to confirm two of Donald Trump's top national security picks -- whose nominations were blocked by ranking members of their own party.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Thanksgiving that the nominations for Joseph Maguire to lead the National Counterterrorism Center and William Evanina to run the National Counterintelligence and Security Center will expire by the end of the year.

The Hill reported earlier in November that Maguire's nomination is being held up by Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) and Evanina's was being held up by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA).

Grassley, the Journal noted, wants more information from the counterintelligence nominee about what he told Vice President Mike Pence regarding the Russia investigation early in the Trump administration.

Evanina has held the role of acting director of the National Counterintelligence and Security Center since 2014, before it required Senate confirmation, the report noted.

A source told the Journal that he's already begun looking for other jobs because his nomination has been stalled since February.
