Former Dem senator breaks down in tears after watching police body camera footage of Capitol attack
For the public, it was the first time that closed circuit television footage was shown of the attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. Along with the footage showing the police officers who put their bodies between attackers and members, there was body camera footage.
The final video was of the officer who was being crushed in between the video, screaming in agony. Another officer, who had a heart attack as a result of being shocked with his own taser, described the fear that he experienced. While one officer was killed, two killed themselves after the attack and many, many others dealt with serious injuries and PTSD.
It made former Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) emotional and angry.
"You know, it's just so hard, Nicolle," she said. "Watching my friends and colleagues run through that hall in fear. In our own Capitol building and then I mean, my anger, I am so sad that my anger that the nerve of this man to claim he supports police and supports law and order and he was sitting in his office while this was going on and did nothing. I mean, that and that alone makes this an impeachable offense, he failed to do anything to protect the people in that building once he knew it had completely gotten out of hand and turned violent. It is just heartbreaking."
By the end of the conversation, McCaskill was in tears.
