Fox News host Shepard Smith didn't appear to be a fan of the official White House line defending President Donald Trump's attack on Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY).
During a White House briefing on Tuesday, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was asked about Trump's tweet earlier in the day. Many believed the tweet contained a sexual innuendo.
But Sanders told reporter April Ryan that "her mind was in the gutter" if she "read it that way."
"Sarah Sanders wrapping up the news briefing," Smith said after the briefing ended. "I guess if you want to continue the trend of the day, the day began with the president saying things about the junior senator from New York, including that she 'would do anything' for campaign contributions."
"And then from the briefing the question was asked was she right when she said this was sexist and the White House press secretary said your mind would have to be in the gutter to feel that way," Smith said, pausing for a moment. "The White House press briefing."
Later, Fox News White House correspondent John Roberts noted that "given the charged atmosphere here in Washington and everything that is swirling around, it would be easy to see how people could have read that tweet the way they did."
