Officials in Columbia, South Carolina warned Thursday afternoon of shots fired at the University of South Carolina's new school of public health.
South Carolina's TheState.com said that the emergency warning Carolina Alert system sent out a message on the social medium Twitter around 1:25 p.m. warning people in the affected area to shelter in place and obey all orders from emergency personnel.

UPDATE (2:18 p.m.): TheState.com is saying that the incident on the USC public health campus was a murder-suicide. Police believe there is no longer an active shooter on the campus. However, much of the campus remains in lockdown as police secure the scene.
UPDATE (2:33 p.m.):WISTV reported that South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) coordinator Thom Berry said in a press conference that there are two people dead, that the situation appears to be a murder-suicide. There is no active shooter currently on campus. The campus-wide lockdown has been raised, but the school of public health is currently closed while police investigate the crime scene.
