Shreveport GOP mayoral candidate tells racially charged story at debate then attacks black woman with racial slur afterward

Anna Marie Arpino, Shreveport mayoral candidate used the N-word during an event on Thursday evening, reported the Shreveport Times.

The forum was held at Southern University, and Arpino used the racial slur while answering questions about education.

Arpino used the term "negro" when comparing what she characterized as her diverse schooling near Washington, D.C., to the segregated schools she attended after her family moved to Shreveport — where, she said, "they (were) still fighting the Civil War."

In the video Arpino appears to say "N*groes," but later tried to defuse the situation.

When asked how she would work with the city council she said: "I came back to Shreveport, Louisiana, (and) went to school here. (I) came back to my mother and said 'what's wrong with these people?' I have two negroes — which is what they were called then — and one Asian and the whole school is upside down."

At the same event, a black woman told representatives at Southern University Shreveport that Arpino continued to verbally attack her with the N-word.

In an interview on Friday, Arpino denied using the racial slur and referred to it as a "political trick" to undermine her campaign.
