Fani Willis must have the goods from Powell and Chesebro to give them no jail: Expert
Pro-Donald Trump lawyers Sidney Powell and Kenneth Chesebro accepted plea deals last week from Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis in a surprising twist in the prosecution of the Georgia election racketeering case. And one of the notable aspects of the deals is that both of them avoid jail time.
That's a significant sign, argued former solicitor general Neal Katyal on MSNBC Monday — it means they must have extremely valuable testimony, possibly against former President Donald Trump himself.
"Neal, this has Donald Trump's attention," said anchor Ari Melber, himself a lawyer. "He seems intent on, if Powell talks, whatever she says doesn't relate to the work for him."

"Fani Willis is battling 100 percent, and doing so with two attorneys ... these are MAGA attorneys who said, yes, we committed crimes," agreed Katyal.
"The two questions you asked, one, what is this testimony going to be like from Powell and Chesebro, and two, will there be more dominos to fall?" continued Katyal. "The tell for me is Fani Willis agreed to plea deals with no jail time. You only do that if the testimony is pretty powerful and compelling. Indeed, Sidney Powell and Chesebro, who both taped their testimony in advance of the plea deal coming out, and they're sworn not to talk about it with anyone, including members of the media, or notably, other defendants, i.e. Donald Trump."
"That's a good point you raise," said Melber. "That goes to the legal calculus, the prosecutorial strategy behind the deals we saw cut."
