South Dakota school district forced to apologize after students dress up in KKK garb for play

High school kids in South Dakota acted in a play over the weekend where some students appeared in KKK  garb, forcing the Sioux Falls school district to apologize, the Argus Leader newspaper reported Tuesday.

"The play allegedly featured a scene of student actors dressed in Ku Klux Klan attire [and] officials said the district didn't follow the proper vetting guidelines for the production, following concerns raised by local community organization Establishing Sustainable Connections," the Leader wrote.

"The district has guidelines in place for vetting plays and other such works and the district failed to follow those guidelines," spokeswoman DeeAnn Konrad said in a statement. "We sincerely regret this and will continue to take action in our quest to be a culturally responsive school community," Konrad continued.

The play in question that was performed by the students is called "The Foreigner." The production performed this past weekend apparently featured a scene in which several actors were wearing costumes to depict KKK members in Georgia.
