Spike Lee walked out of Oscars theater when he heard 'Green Book' announced as best picture

Filmmaker Spike Lee appeared angry that the film "Green Book" won the Academy Award for best picture Sunday evening.

According to Associated Press reporter Andrew Dalton, Lee began "waving his arms in disgust and appearing to try to storm out of the Dolby Theatre before he was stopped at the doors. He returned to his seat when the speeches were over."

"Green Book" has struggled with controversy for what some call a "whitewashing" of the life of classical pianist Donald Shirley. There was also the story of Shirley refusing to allow the story of his unlikely friendship with driver Tony Vallelonga to be told. Vallelonga said that Shirley gave his permission but asked that the film not be made until after his death. Shirley's nephew said that he knew of his uncle's wishes but not that he ultimately agreed to the film.

Critics noted that the film was an example of a "white savior" plot, where a black main character is saved by a white character. Examples include "Blood Diamond," "The Blind Side" and "The Help."

It's unknown which problem with the film bothers Lee the most.

Lee won his first Oscar earlier in the night for writing the critically acclaimed film “BlacKkKlansman.”
