‘This is all a set-up’: Steve Bannon whines to Matt Gaetz as he inches closer to being prosecuted

Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon complained about the treatment he was receiving from the House Select Committee investigating the Capitol riots during an interview with embattled Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL).

While talking with Gaetz, Bannon said that the vote to hold him in criminal contempt of Congress was a "set up" involving Attorney General Merrick Garland.

Gaetz went on to claim that the committee is "trying to create a wholly enclosed ecosystem of the persecution in the Congress and in the enforcement tools in the Department of Justice."

Gaetz then claimed that the FBI had become "the enforcement wing of the Democratic Party," a development he said was "scary."

"They called me crazy when I said the FBI was out to get Trump!" Gaetz added.

Gaetz also accused former Trump Attorney General Jeff Sessions of getting "Stockholm Syndrome" because he never indicted any prominent Democrats during his tenure.

The Capitol riot committee this week unanimously voted to refer criminal charges against Bannon to the DOJ after Bannon completely refused to comply with its subpoenas.

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) pointedly said ahead of the vote that she believed Bannon was stonewalling the committee to prevent revelations of Trump's direct involvement in the planning of the Capitol riots from becoming public.
