Right-wing podcaster Steve Bannon said he was "gobsmacked" after former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson denied dating Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL).
On his Tuesday War Room broadcast, Bannon reacted to Hutchinson after she told MSNBC host Rachel Maddow that she did not have a romantic relationship with Gaetz, even though he repeatedly hit on her.
"I never dated Matt Gaetz," Hutchinson said. "I have much higher standards in men."

"I'm kind of gobsmacked by her," Bannon said after reviewing the remarks.
Bannon noted that Gaetz had allegedly called Hutchinson a "national treasure" when he made a pass at her.
"Cassidy, you're going to have to have some backup for that," the right-wing host said. "But here's what's going on... There are no coincidences in this town. This has all dropped right now because Matt Gaetz is the leader of this — kind of trying to save the country going through an appropriations process."
"They don't want Matt Gaetz going to these gaggles and being able to talk about the business of the nation," he added. "They're in the gaggle — all the questions are going to be for the next three or four days about Cassidy Hutchinson."
