Michigan Republican duped into reading the plot of 'E.T.' as an illegal immigrant story

A Michigan pol was pranked on camera into reading aloud the plot for the 1982 science fiction flick "E.T." as a legitimate tale of an illegal immigrant.

State Representative Steve Carra (R) who bills himself as a "a Trump-endorsed conservative fighter" running for state representative in St. Joseph and Cass counties was captured sipping a cup of coffee while recording himself reading a submitted vignette from a viewer; possibly a constituent, and first reported by Michigan Tea.

"The other day I saw this wild story about an illegal alien who was seperated from his family and then taken in by some kids who hid him from the authorities and their parents," he read. "I guess he was gifted at medicine and healing people."

"But he also got the 10-year-old drunk at school and persuaded to sexually harass another student."

Carra appeared to believe every word.

He went on: "Eventually the authorities caught the kid but then the kids stole a van to get him back and the kids found his parents and reunited them. They haven't been able to catch the family yet. Just crazy what's happening in this country."

The film, directed by Steven Spielberg, is a tale about a gentle extraterrestrial alien who was stranded on Earth and bonds with a bunch of kids.

But Carra shed light on this story as one of many affecting our country as it continues to wrestle with the crisis at the southern border.

"Yeah that does sound like a crazy story," he said. "There's so many of them out there you wouldn't know; so many stories that could be, just haven't come to light."

Then he turned the story's takeaway into a parable.

"Freedom and the ability to move freely to migrate to another country legally — not having a 5 year and 8 month waiting period on average and do it the right way," he said. "But instead incentivizing illegal immigration leads to these types of issues of illegal immigration happening more frequently. It's unfortunate but there are people who stand to gain financially--."
